Get to know Therese Alshammar

Therese Alshammar is one of Sweden’s most successful athletes of all time and a global icon in competitive swimming, winning three Olympic medals and more than 70 international medals at the World and European Championships. She is also the only female swimmer to have competed in six Olympic Games.

In swimming, an athlete’s prime is typically in the early twenties. Therese set her first world record at 22, but what makes her career truly remarkable is that she remained among the world’s elite for more than 17 years. In 2011 she became the oldest female swimmer ever to win a World Championship gold medal.
