GraphQL is loved and praised by developers all over the world, often because of the type system that GraphQL brings to backends. Although the type system is a great feature, it shouldn't be the main reason for developers to adopt GraphQL. From optimized data fetching in web- and mobile apps (under/over fetching, N+1 problem) to a better orchestration of your data across all your data sources, there are plenty of reasons to start using GraphQL. But there are also use cases where GraphQL might not be the best, or alternatives like tRPC could be better. In this talk I'll show how GraphQL offers more than a type system, and how it compares to other technologies solving similar problems.
