Session: Durable-Functions, Actors, Singletons, Micro-Services & Orchestration
Durable Functions extend the Azure Functions functionality to allow for durable storage of state in a scalable serverless hosting environment. This opens up the possibility of creating sophisticated distributed applications using durable functions in the middle tier, but also raises questions for architects and developers. What patterns can we use that will effectively leverage the functionality of durable functions? Should we consider durable functions as a micro-service platform instead of a more traditional approach? How do durable functions compare with other Azure services, such as Logic Apps and Service Fabric?
In this demo intensive session Alan will share his ideas and opinions on using Azure Durable Functions in the application middle tier. He will discuss and demonstrate the implementation of patterns using Durable Functions, such as Function Chaining and Stateful Singleton. The use of durable functions in micro-service architecture will be covered in detail along with techniques for ensuring application scalability. He will round off the session be comparing Durable Functions with other Azure services, such as Logic Apps and Service Fabric, and share his opinions on when to use what.
